PERC Summer School

The PERC program offers a summer school in 9th grade algebra and living environment for students who failed the Regents exam in June.

Students can earn credit for the course and retake the Regents exam. The summer school is run on several CUNY campuses each year and typically starts after July 9 and ends with the August administration of the Regents exams. For the past decade, more than 90% of the students who enroll have passed the August Regents exam!

The PERC summer school is run according to the PERC model. Summer school students attend the selected course from 9:30-12:30 every day, Monday-Thursday, on one of the partner college campuses for five weeks. Summer school typically begins shortly after the 4th of July and ends in the middle of August. Students work intensively with a TAS under the supervision of the teacher. Often the summer school instructional staff includes 2-3 teachers, 7 TASs, and 2-3 teachers in training. The day is divided between course time, where students work in groups to master specific topics, and TAS time, where students work with a TAS on Regents-like problems.

Students are only eligible for PERC summer school in the sciences if they have completed the laboratory-based requirements during the academic year.
